AYD Through the Years – Part 3: The AYD Logo

By late July 2021, Asankare Youth for Development already had a name, a motto, and a growing membership. What it lacked was a symbol, something that could represent the Association everywhere it went.

The process to get a logo began in the last weeks of July. Members shared ideas, debated, and suggested improvements. Drafts were drawn, edited, and refined. The work was led by Elvis Ofori-Amanfo together with Colins Ahenkorah, two creative members who took on the challenge of turning the vision of AYD into a design. After several weeks of deliberation and revisions, the final version was completed on 6 August 2021.

On Sunday, 8 August 2021, during a general meeting, the logo was officially presented to the members. After careful discussion, it was unanimously accepted as the official emblem of Asankare Youth for Development.

The AYD Logo

What the Logo Stands For

The Letters “AYD”

At the centre are the bold letters AYD, short for Asankare Youth for Development. Their strength represents courage, while the forward-slanting “A” reflects movement and progress.

The Circular Lines

Two semi-circular curves surround the letters. Circles have no end, and here they represent unity, continuity, and inclusiveness. They remind members that development is ongoing and requires all hands.

The Human Figure

On the left is a human figure with arms raised high. This symbolises the optimism and energy of the youth. The raised hands stand for victory, hope, and empowerment.

The Colours

Blue: Trust, loyalty, and peace.

Yellow: Energy, positivity, and hope.

 •White: Purity, honesty, and transparency.

Together, these colours communicate AYD’s vision for a future built on unity, transparency, and integrity.

The Motto

Beneath the design is the motto: “Let’s Arise and Build.” Adopted at the third meeting on 25 July 2021, it was officially placed into the logo to become part of AYD’s lasting identity.

Founded 2021

The phrase “Founded 2021” honours the beginning of AYD and reminds members of how far the Association has come since its birth.

Where the Logo Appears

From its adoption, the logo became AYD’s official stamp of identity. It began appearing on cloth and T-shirts, programme banners, registration forms, letters, WhatsApp groups, flyers, and social media. Each time it appeared, it told the community that AYD was active and present.

As designer Elvis Ofori-Amanfo later explained, “

A Lasting Mark

For members, the logo quickly became a source of pride, but also a responsibility. Wearing or displaying it meant carrying the reputation of the whole Association. Treating it with respect was part of honouring the sacrifices that built AYD from the ground up.

Designs may fade and colours may wear out, but the meaning of the AYD logo remains strong. Created by members, for members, it is one of the most personal and enduring treasures of the Association. Wherever it appears, it carries one truth: We are the youth. We are ready. Let’s arise and build.
